Greywacke Wild Sauvignon 2009, New Zealand

Kevin Judd (founder of Cloudy Bay) has produced the 2009 Wild Sauvignon which is a gorgeous Sauvignon Blanc, fermented using wild yeasts and matured in older French oak barriques with lees aging. As you can imagine you’re getting a richer, more layered and complex version of Sauvignon that has hints of crème brulee, sweet vanilla notes and all-round savoury complexity.

Conde de Valdemar Barrica Rioja Blanco 2010, SpainConde de Valdemar Barrica Rioja Blanco 2010, Spain

Aromas of ripe fruit harmonized with the new French oak.  In the mouth it is tasty and well-rounded with light citric touches, very well-balanced with a clean and elegant finish.
Had this recently at a dinner as an aperitif but would also go very well with fish, white meat and pasta.

Woodstock ‘The Stocks’ Shiraz 2006, Australia

The Shiraz is opaque black, crimson, purple colour with purple hue. Superb nose, wonderfully refined, lifted top note of vanilla, confectionary, liquorice allsorts, ripe plum and blackberry. The palate is filled with ripe mouth filling Shiraz – with a generosity of flavour that is typical of great McLaren Vale Shiraz. Explosive palate flavours of vanilla, spice, black pepper, ripe plum and liquorice. Very long aftertaste of confectionary, spice and black pepper.

La Forge Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, France

Deep, garnet red in colour with bright ruby tints, on the nose it has intense red berry flavours (raspberries), red pepper and tobacco notes underlined with cocoa and spicy vanilla aromas.  In the mouth it is full bodied with smooth tannins. Ripe cherry flavours on the middle palate, vanilla and spicy notes on the long and fruity finish.   Will be enjoyable with warm salads as an appetisier . With main courses like barbecue lamb or beef, or lamb stews.

£9.99 per bottle or £50 for 6

Domaine du Chateau d’Eau Merlot Rose

The dominant theme here is fresh strawberry fruit with good acidity and a smooth, luxurious texture.  There’s a bit of spicy bite too.  It’s the sort of wine you could quaff without too much thought, but if you give it some contemplation it rewards you with complexity.

£7.99 per bottle or £40 for 6
